head inlay on the acoustic guitar

This picture fits the grain angle, but it's only a starting point. the sections of the bird will be blocked out using different colors of wood inlay and the head will be changed so the beak is open and holding a red berry.

Fitting the neck onto an acoustic guitar

The goal in fitting a dovetail neck to the acoustic guitar body is to keep the centerlines lined up making a zero gap fit between the heel & body; make a setback angle on the neck relative to the top; fit the dovetail with only a little wiggle.

Left handed walnut acoustic guitar, carving the heel

Carving the heel, the wood chips out easily because of its high figure.  The grain goes in all directions. so chisel work is held farther from the layout lines, then finished up with rasps.
I always do the left side first, being a lefty.  That gives me a quality standard to aspire to on the right side.

Dovetail neck to body joint on an acoustic guitar

This series of photographs shows the process of cutting in a dovetail joint on an acoustic guitar.  Attaching the neck to the body with a dovetail makes a strong lightweight joint.
